Soon after breakfast this morning, we heard what sounded like a gun shot and almost simultaneously the lights went off. Actually, the lights went off first. In a few minutes we realized that it wasn't just our cabin that had no electricity, but the whole neighborhood was without, because we heard the generator start at the neighbor's cabin who lives a few houses down our mountain. About 10-15 minutes later, we heard a truck come by- it was the people from the electric company. They identified that the problem was in our backyard- our transformer had gone kaput! In another 5-10 minutes, a bigger electric truck pulled up and the men went to work. And what an incredible job they have! It's not just getting the electricity working again but to do it on a mountain, on a cabin. They didn't seem to think their job was anything out of the ordinary, but we were fascinated and watched the entire process. The lights came back on within two hours of them going off. Bravo, French Board!

So, Rigel made another robot- CrabBot- with his team and entered the SumoBot robotics tournament that was held in Boone, as part of the North Carolina Science Festival. He had great fun making a SumoBot, using Lego pieces that included a brain, motors and sensors. The goal of the tournament was to beat your opponents robot by pushing it off of the arena. There were an amazing variety and design of robots. Rigel's team did pretty well- it won four of the five rounds! Well Easter is a happy time for everyone! It's a marker that Spring is just around the corner! The Hilberts (our friends from robotics) invited us over to their home for Easter lunch and of course, an egg hunt. Lunch was fantastic, with tons of yummy foods to eat! The adults then went around hiding eggs for us up and down the mountain where they live. They were the plastic kind, filled with jellybeans, chocolate eggs and change. The big prize was the golden egg (a plastic egg covered in tinfoil). Inside it was fifteen dollars, and Christian eventually found it underneath a log, with a little help from the hiders. It was a perfect day to just stay outside and enjoy the weather and hang out with friends! Well I think it's safe to say that spring is definitely here! This weekend was beautiful, so Ri, Dad and I decided to go for a hike! We went to Crabtree Falls which is near a campground and we found it was relatively easy. It was about 3 mile loop trail was was truly gorgeous. It had been kind of rainy a couple days before, so the waterfall was gushing, and the trees have not fully grown their leaves back which means you can really see far. It was a great time to go and I'd love to go back! ~Aneka |
