| It was lovely spending winter holidays in New Jersey at Grammy and Poppop's house. We haven't spent Christmas together since at least 8 years so it was extra special. It was great to have a reunion with our cousins from California and from Arizona. There were 9 kids and sometimes more when we met up with Dad's other cousin and his friend. We did a lot of fun things. The only thing we didn't get to do was have a snowball fight as there was no snow. :-( Some fun highlights: make Oreo coal for our uncles, eat Turkish, Indian and Chinese food, go to the re-enactment of the battle of Trenton, visit the Terhune Orchards (it was super cold and windy that day!), play soccer, play lots of board games together till late at night, read and read and read...and sing and sing and sing! We even brought Luna with us since we didn't want her to be lonely over the holidays, without us. Uncle Esau (Grammy and Poppop's cat), was a perfect gentleman and put up with the rude, hissing young'un from China. |

We had a wonderful Christmas with family in NJ. Our cousins from California and from Arizona were there too and so there were a lot of people! We spent Christmas Eve at Grammy and Poppop's. We exchanged presents with each other and gave a special present to Uncle Pete and Uncle Eric- coal in a stocking! Well, it was Oreo cookie coal, so they didn't mind! We went to Candlelight mass at church at night. It was beautiful when everyone sang "Silent Night" and they turned off the lights so we could only see the light from the candles people were holding. The next morning, we found that Santa had visited! More presents- oh boy! Then, we went to Washington Crossing to see the re-enactment of the crossing that George Washington led across the Delaware all those years ago, on Christmas day, 1776! After that, we went to Aunt Mary's farmhouse to have Christmas dinner, with turkey and all the trimmings! Uncle Pete made some delicious dessert!
Three days after Thanksgiving, we all thought that it would be fit to get into the Christmas spirit. And what better way to do that than to get a Christmas Tree. North Carolina is famous for Christmas Tree farms, especially in our area. The county next door to us- Avery, is number one in Christmas Tree farms. Because of that we decided to drive around that area and see what kinds of farms we could find. As we were driving down the road, Mom spotted a sign that said "Choose and Cut Christmas Trees, $12 for all Sizes!" Well that was good enough for us. The most difficult part was probably getting down to the farm. It had rained and snowed the past couple of days and the road was super muddy! When we went up we went up. Ri found a Christmas tree he liked almost immediately. After some careful consideration we picked the perfect one (the one next to the one that Ri first liked!) and asked the man to cut it down. He even helped us wrap it for an extra dollar and secure it onto our car. After checking at a local store for tree stands, we realized that they were sold out of stands, so Ri and Dad made one. Finally we strung up the lights and decorated. The process took two days but now we have a lovely Christmas Tree in our living room! |
