The other day dad wanted us to build a snow fort as we had never built one before. He had some good memories from wen he was growing up in NYC. We found a crate that we could put the snow in; then, we got some shovels to pick up the snow.Luna helped us by testing to see if the snow bricks were strong enough. We finished the fort in a couple of hours- it was good exercise! We added rock letters- our initials and made it look like a castle. The next day, the rain came down, and the following day, the sun came out but our snow fort held up for a few days...till it finally collapsed. So this was the coldest EVER week we've EVER experienced! I think Dad too would agree! After three days of being only on Green Mountain, today, we made a trip into town to drop off Aneka (who is going to a youth festival in Tennessee with some friends) and to re-stock up on some groceries. It is truly beautiful with the white cover on the ground. And I'm not sure its over yet as the prediction is "more wintry precipitation tonight" but here are some photos. So here are some updates to our tree house project! See this post on Rigel's page for earlier plans. http://happerfamily.weebly.com/rigel/tree-house We first finished the trap door, then put up some more supporting braces on the other side of the platform, tried to fill in the deck of the platform on the far side, added posts on the corners and in between for the railing. Lastly, we finished covering the deck, leaving spaces for the trees grow through. We're now experimenting with making a netting for the railing, and a rope ladder on one side. Its been a wonderful, learning experience. We've been getting help from many experts: neighbors, friends, cats, dogs and deer! It was another beautiful day on the mountain. The birds were chirping and the ice was beginning to melt down the mountainside. All of a sudden a huge crashing sound startled the critters who had stayed around for winter. A big foot came down onto the leaves- actually there were six, big feet! Humans. Dad, Ri and I went hiking up the mountain for the third time, this time though we went up the road. The first couple times we were really close, but the mountain was getting dangerously steep, so we had to come back down. This time, we did it! It was a really nice hike and I even found a hiking stick on the way. When we got up to the top we could see Upper Pig Pen and the church along that road along with some other buildings we recognized. That was pretty exciting! Overall there and back took about three and a half hours! Now, lets see if we can beat that! |
